My ET friend Galen once told me that on his planet there are no animals. They have robotic pets instead, due to the harsh living conditions.
I have a dog that is absolutely devoted to me. He is part border collie, and he lives up to their reputation of being a very smart animal.
We have become so close that I am beginning to believe that we sometimes communicate telepathically. I wonder what Galen would have to say about that.
Duane: Hello Galen. I haven’t seen you for a while.
Galen: Hello Duane. Yes, it's good to see you. Concentrate on my eyes. I am also busy with someone else this evening. I don't think you would want to get involved in our communication.
What’s on your mind this evening?
D: I usually eat breakfast by myself every morning. I like eggs, sausage and a cup of decaf coffee—powdered creamer, no sugar. While I’m eating, my dog is in the bedroom sleeping in his bed.
I’m afraid I have spoiled my dog by always leaving something on my plate for him to finish—not just breakfast, but lunch and dinner, too. At breakfast, I leave a small piece of sausage on my plate for him. As I get to that point, I consciously have the thought in my mind that Cheyenne, my dog, should wake up, come, and get his treat. I want to put my plate in the dishwasher. In a few seconds, he comes trotting out of the bedroom, comes up to me and sits.
The sitting I make him do before I give him any treat. Of course, he gets the sausage.
This is my question. Is it just a coincidence that he comes awake just as I finish my meal or is he getting some kind of message from my subconscious, or wherever telepathy comes from?
G: I don't know your dog, and I am not there for your breakfast. However, any living thing that has a brain gives off electrical impulses that are transmitted outward. Any brain tuned in to the correct frequency will be able to pick up the impulses.
It's hard to say if that's what is happening between you and your dog. It certainly is possible, though.
It’s also possible that your dog has learned your habits so well that he senses how long you have been in the kitchen and feels it is time to go and get his treat.
D: Many times after I have put him out I will get a feeling come over me that he wants to come in. I will go to the door and he will be sitting, or laying, there waiting for me to let him in.
G: Yes, telepathy can work in both directions. However, you also may only be sensing that he has been out long enough and wants in. These things are hard to prove.
D: Tell me about it. I have been trying for years to get some proof that you and I are communicating on some telepathic level. After all, it could be my subconscious making all this stuff up.
G: Unless the federation allows us to give you some incontrovertible evidence to prove we exist, my hands are tied.
D: Yes. I know. Same old, same old.
I’m losing my concentration. I have to leave. Good-bye, Galen.
G: Good-bye Duane. Don't be gone so long. I enjoy our meetings.
I was reviewing what I wrote and I noticed I started by referencing “his home planet”.
I used the male pronoun “his”. I said I was going to use “e” as a pronoun to replace he or she. I also need something to replace the possessive pronoun hers or his.
I was thinking about how I came up with e by removing letters from she and he. If I do something similar to his and hers I end up with a possessive form “hs." Instead of its, hers or his I will use hs, pronounced ayches, with the accent on the first syllable, or maybe hz, like in ms. I think ayches, because hiz sounds too much like his.
